Disability Documentation Requirements

Eligibility for jobs at Chimes, such as the AbilityOne Program jobs, require disability documentation. Documentation of disability specifically related to the demonstration of an individual having a significant disability as outlined by the AbilityOne Program. Different documentation is required for each category of disability.

When preparing your disability documentation please consider the following:

  • Chimes is not part of the Federal Government and does not use the Federal Office of Personnel Management procedures. Chimes does not accept the Schedule A Certificate as documentation of disability.
  • Veterans Affairs (VA) disability ratings are also not considered adequate documentation of a significant disability.
  • Documentation from the Social Security Administration (SSA) that the individual is receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or is eligible to receive such benefits. The documentation does not require signature or identification of the individual’s disability (ies)
  • Certification by a Veteran Affairs (VA) Rehabilitation Counselor is acceptable. The certification must contain a clearly stated diagnosis of the disease, injury, or impairment that causes the disability, and must contain physical limitations and/or restrictions for physical impairments.
  • Chimes requires a written report or a certification signed by a qualified medical professional containing clearly stated diagnosis of the disease, injury, or impairment that causes the individual to have a disability. Proof of disability documentation must be on professional letter head or a certification of disability by a State of Local government agency (such as the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitation Services, the Maryland Department of Rehabilitation Services, or Washington, D.C. Department of Disability Services).
